If the past several years of camera introductions have proven anything, it’s that there’s a hunger for dials, knobs and large image sensors among the camera buying public. Not one to miss the boat, Nikon is delivering all of the above in its new DL series of advanced compacts.

There will be three models in the lineup, which will arrive in stores in the summer. All will offer fixed lenses and use a 20.8-megapixel, 1-inch backside illuminated CMOS sensor. Other shared features include a burst mode of up to 20 fps with continuous AF or up to a scorching 60 fps with AF fixed on the first frame. The cameras boast 105 phase detect AF points and 171 contrast detection points as well as Nikon’s Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction. They’ll also record 4K video (3840 x 2160 at 30p), shoot RAW (NEF), offer built-in Wi-Fi and NFC and use Nikon’s updated Snapbridge technology for sharing images wirelessly with mobile devices.

The lens barrels on the new DL cameras will have  a manual focus ring and the front lens elements will have fluorine coating to repel dirt, water and oily smudges.
